Aberystwyth Town's Park Avenue ground will make history on Thursday 24th September, when it hosts the first ever match of the Welsh Women's Premier League (WWPL), between Aberystwyth Town Ladies and Llanidloes Town Ladies.
Aber and Llani were selected as Mid-Wales' Representatives in the Northern Section of the WWPL and the match is a head to head between the Champions of the two local leagues. Llani won the Dave Smith North Powys League last season, while Aber won their Ceredigion League and League Cup. Revenge will be on the agenda for the hosts however, after the Daffs beat them in the Central Wales Cup Final at Newtown in May.
The local rivals have agreed to move the date forward from the original conference date of Sunday 26th September, when three other matches will take place: Caernarfon Town v Wrexham (Northern Section), Manorbier v Newcastle Emlyn and UWIC v Swansea City (Southern Section).
Ray Hughes, Aber Town Manager said: "These are exciting times for ladies football in general, and it is really tremendous that Aberystwyth Ladies will be participating in the first ever Women's Welsh Premier League, let alone the first ever game. The Ladies have been really looking forward for this occasion and have been working extremely hard in training. All the players are fully aware that the games are going to be extremely tough but they are fully committed in playing quality football under the name of Aberystwyth Town Ladies."
The game kicks off at 7.30pm and admission will cost £3 for adults and £1 concessions.
The match will be filmed by Rondo Media for S4C's Sgorio programme, with highlights to be shown on Monday 27th September. Souvenir match programmes will be on sale on the day for £1, but can also be ordered from email@example.com.
