Five-star Leicester hit top spot
 Women's Football News 2 Sep 2009
Leicester City leapt to the top of the Northern Division with a 5-0 victory over Preston North End.
Courtney Sweetman-Kirk gave Leicester the lead midway through the first half and Katie Lowder quickly added a second with Lauren Impey getting on the scoresheet on the stroke of half time. Emma Reader had a fine game in goal for Preston but could not prevent Sweetman-Kirk and Lowder completing their doubles for City early in the second half.
Liverpool claimed their second victory in successive games by beating Luton Town 2-0. Cheryl Foster gave the Reds a first half lead but it needed a penalty save from Hannah Williams to keep them ahead at the break. Sam Chappell wrapped up the win with the second goal late on.
Manchester City had started the day in leaders but are now back in third place after going down 3-2 at home to Leeds City Vixens, who complete a quartet of clubs on six points. Stacey Daniel scored twice and Emily Heckler the other for Leeds, with City replying through Charlotte Farrell and Krystle Johnson.
Aston Villa remain unbeaten after three matches but drew for the second successive game, 1-1 against OOH Lincoln. Kelly Saggs netted for Villa with an own goal giving the Lady Imps a share of the spoils.
Curzon Ashton notched up their first victory of the season, defeating Derby County 3-0 thanks to a goal apiece from Sophie Turrell, Issy Hayes and Amanda Goodwin.
Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle Utd are both still searching for their first wins after they battled out a 1-1 draw. Sarah Danby's first half goal looked to have set Wednesday on their way towards victory but Stacy Crooks ensured a second successive draw for Newcastle by netting a late equaliser.
