Combination Leagues round up
 Women's Football News 17 Apr 2009
Northern Combination
Leeds City Vixens are on the brink of winning the Northern Combination title and promotion to the Premier League after they defeated fellow challengers Rochdale 3-2. The Yorkshire side have finished as runners-up in each of the last three seasons but a point against West Auckland this Sunday will assure them of the title.
Salford Sports have guaranteed themselves a top four finish after battling out a goalless draw away to Blackpool Wren Rovers.
Middlesbrough came away from Peterlee Town with a 5-0 victory which means they can still finish in third. Steph Turnbull, Donna Swift, Becky Hanratty, Leanne Hawkwell and Nicky Duckling all netted a goal apiece for 'Boro.
Morley Spurs boosted their chances of a top five place in their first season after promotion, thanks to a 1-0 win at Scunthorpe Utd with Vicky Burton scoring the only goal of the game.
West Auckland Town continue to finish the season strongly and they are now out of the bottom three following their 5-0 success away to Bradford City. Caz Ross scored twice along with Julie-Ann Waitman, Chloe McKay and Tracey Swailes.
* On Thursday night, Natalie Firth, Annie Heighway and Sheuna Hall were all on target as Morley Spurs defeated Bradford City 3-2.
Midland Combination
Derby County had a great Easter Sunday and they need just two more points to make sure of winning the title. They returned to the top of the league in style with a 7-1 victory away to Copsewood (Coventry). Marie Wayne bagged a double, with other goals from Leanne Beet, Natalie Ennis, Lorna Abbey, Lauren Steadman and Emily Jeffery.
Coventry City may well have been dealt a fatal blow after they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Bromwich Albion. Robyn James gave Albion a first half lead, which they held until deep into stoppage time when Dani Saulter grabbed an equaliser for the Sky Blues.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are also out of the running as they went down to only their second defeat of the season, their 14-match unbeaten run ending with a 2-0 reverse at home to Leicester City, whose goals came from Jodie White and Clare Stephens in the last nine minutes.
A 5-2 victory over Loughborough Students has lifted TNS & Shrewsbury Town back up into third place. Abbie Cottam and Kim Bebbington each netted twice for TNS, with Vicky Gutteridge completing the scoring.
South East Combination
One match was played in the quarter finals of the League Cup on Sunday. The top two in the table met each other and Enfield Town took a step closer towards a potential League and Cup 'double' with a 3-0 victory over Luton Town. Kerrie Marlborough, Lizzie Kent and Robyn Downie were all on the scoresheet for Enfield.
South West Combination
Queen's Park Rangers kept up the pressure at the top of the table with an emphatic victory over Reading Royals and a victory in their final game against Plymouth will confirm them as Champions.
Plymouth Argyle meanwhile made sure they kept their challenge on course by scoring six without reply away to Swindon Town. Chloe Roberts led the scoring with a hat-trick and she was joined on the scoresheet by Becky Atkins, Aoife Aherne and an own goal.
In the meantime, Yeovil Town cling on to second place following their 3-0 win against Weston St Johns. Anusia Rourke, Jemma Tewksbury and Amy Wild netted a goal apiece for Yeovil.
Chesham Utd can still finish in the top four after they came away from Forest Green Rovers with a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Katie Milton and Kate Bowers.
