League leaders Leeds City Vixens suffered a setback in their title challenge as they went down to their first defeat of the season, beaten 4-1 by Salford Sports. Lindsay Newman scored twice, with Isha Mundall and Emma Sconce adding the other goals to take Salford into second place.
It was not a good day for Rochdale either as they also lost, 1-0 to Stockport County. Rachel Williams netted the only goal of the game in the first half to give Stockport their first league victory since September.
League leaders Coventry City did not play on Sunday but they held on to top spot as none of their rivals were able to conjure up a victory.
A win would have taken TNS & Shrewsbury Town top but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, whose own challenge took a dent. Abi Cottam gave TNS an early lead which was cancelled out by a Finola Corley own goal. Wolves went in front after the break through Nicole Ledgister but TNS hit back to earn themselves a point when Kim Bebbington equalised.
West Bromwich Albion also found themselves frustrated as they were held to a goalless draw by fast improving Radcliffe Olympic, who continue to make themselves tough to beat.
* No matches were played in the South East Combination or the South West Combination on Sunday.
