Millwall Lionesses' F.A.Women's Cup Fifth Round tie against Blackburn Rovers last Sunday was to have been Keith Boanas' and Pete McGovern's last game in charge.
Keith and Pete are well respected coaches in the game and it should come as no surprise that other clubs would like to have them in charge. However, one offer has been hard to turn down and it has not come from a club, but a country!
Estonia have been chasing them for over a year to run their national ladies team on a part time basis. Unfortunately for Millwall, they have increased their offer to a full time position which also gives them full control over the development of women's football in Estonia, an offer they could not refuse.
With the approval of the committee, Keith has arranged for Matt Beard to take on the job of the first team manager. Matt was Keith's number two at Charlton for three years and was shortlisted for the Lionesses job last time around. Training will be taken by Matt with help from Millwall Community Scheme coaching staff.
The appointment of Matt will support the continuity of the work and team cohesion developed by Keith and Pete, as well as allowing for Keith and Pete to remain involved and support the team whenever possible.
