Reading FC this weekend launched their new women's Futsal team.
Reading FC Women manager Frank Rodriguez and Director of Women's football Lee Herron launched the Women's initiative into the world's fastest growing indoor sport - the indoor five-a-side football format called Futsal which is played extensively throughout the world,
The FA have adopted Futsal as a key part of their development plans for the future and the sport is set for a football revolution in England.
The tournament took place at the new @Futsal Arena in Swindon, the first of many opening across the UK. @Futsal Chairman Dave Steventon said: "This was the launch weekend for our very first arena, and to see so many people playing Futsal, some for the very first time, was pleasing to see.
"The ladies' games were some of the highlights of the weekend with some breathtaking futsal being played."
Reading earned a stunning 10-1 win over Swindon in the first outing and then drew 4-4 against a Birmingham side containing a number of players with Premier League futsal experience. They led that game with 30 seconds to go, but the draw was still enough to earn them cup glory at the end of the tournament.
The squad contained a number of players from Reading's first team squad and the Royals will now continue to participate in futsal tournaments and leagues.
Lee Herron said: "For our ladies to play their first ever futsal tournament and come out winners was great to see.
"We have had futsal as part of our ladies coaching programme for over a year thanks to the expertise of Frank Rodriguez and have seen some real progress in the players' development. We see this as a real tool for further development in the future."
