Forest Green Rovers v Cheltenham Town - 23 Nov 2008 - Women's Football NewsF.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Cheltenham Town are now the sole survivors from the Preliminary Round, albeit having received a bye through to this stage.
They now face a local derby tie against Forest Green Rovers from the South West Combination.
Forest Green came through to this stage with a 4-2 victory against Frome Town and the Nailsworth-based side will be aiming to repeat last year's excellent Cup run, when they knocked out Keynsham Town on penalties before losing to Liverpool in the Fourth Round.
The club was originally formed as Chalford Ladies and made their way through the Gloucestershire County League and South West League before linking up with Forest Green Rovers. They subsequently won the South West League title and promotion to the South West Combination, where they have remained ever since.
Under the managership of Chris Smith and assisted by Charla Comyn-Platt, the club is enjoying its best ever season at this level and are among the front runners. Charlotte King has played in the top flight for Bristol City and is a key member of the side, as has Helen Wood with Bristol Academy this season. Phil Helliwell has been with the club since the start and is one of the most prolific goalscorers in the area. Captain Angie McQuillan is also aiming for success off the pitch as she is soon to take part in the Pop Idol 2008 Final at Portsmouth!
The game will be played at The New Lawn, home of Forest Green Rovers FC, and a hard fought local derby is anticipated with the home side going into the match as favourites.
