Wycombe Wanderers v Cheltenham Town - 26 Oct 2008 - Women's Football NewsF.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Cheltenham Town's fine Cup run has taken them into the Third Round Qualifying, Grace Parker's double and Rhona Donaldson giving them a 3-1 win against Launton.
The South West League side must now travel to Buckinghamshire where they will take on Wycombe Wanderers, whose 4-0 win at Woodley Saints included a Tasha Smith hat-trick.
Wycombe Wanderers was established in 1989 as the ladies team of the men's club. In the early days, the club had a few managers, each of whom brought much needed experience to the team. However, it wasn't until Graham Malcolm (a UEFA B qualified coach) joined in 1998 that the club started its current run of successes.
The first team competes in the Southern Region League and, after consistently finishing runners-up for a number of years, won promotion to the Premier Division at the end of the 2003-04 season. In that same year the club established a reserve team as a result of an increasing number of girls and women in the region interested in playing football.
The club has a desire to improve year on year and has set its sights on promotion from the Premier Division into the South West Combination and for the reserves to move into the top division of the Thames Valley Counties League.
Graham Malcolm continues in the manager's role and is assisted by Dave Jones. Charlie Clarke is First Team Captain and Su Oakley is amongst the most prolific goalscorers in the Southern Region League.
The game will be played at Loudwater and is expected to be another very closely fought tie between two evenly matched teams.
