Performances have been good enough - Marie

Performances have been good enough - Marie - 16 Dec 2005 - Women's Football NewsFulham captain Marie O'Brien remained positive despite frustrations at her side going down to a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Bristol Academy on Sunday.
Fulham had chances to get something out of the game and Marie told Women's Soccer Scene that they should have done so. "It was definitely unlucky, I don't think they deserved the win at all," said Marie. "It was quite an even game but I thought we had the better chances. We let in a sloppy goal and had chances to win the game, their goalkeeper made some great saves so we can take some positives into our next game against Doncaster.
"(We've had) two 1-0 losses in a row now, both undeserved, but we must build from that. We've got a very young squad but we can't feel sorry for ourselves as we have another chance to get three points next week."
Marie admitted that the game was symptomatic of their season so far. "We should have more points on the board," she replies, "our performances have been good enough to get wins. It's just by the odd goal - this week, last week, and two late goals against Everton, so it is just sloppy goals that are letting us down. We're playing good football and, the majority of the time, have been the better side as well so it is just concentration. We've got an average age of 18 in our squad, only two players are over 21, so the future is very positive."
Two players who have shone for Fulham this season have been Justine Lorton and Dunia Susi, a fact that Marie is quick to recognise. "Justine gives us experience, which is good to have amongst all the youngsters, and Dunia has been excellent. Her work rate is phenomenal, her pace is excellent and she's been doing really well. She had chances today and on another day they would be in the back of the net. Justine and Dunia are an older and younger combination and they complement each other well.
After Christmas, Fulham begin their F.A.Women's Cup campaign against Southampton Saints - a match which means a lot to Marie. "With Southampton being my old club, it's a great draw and I can't wait for that," she smiles. "I haven't played against them since I left a couple of seasons ago but a lot of the players that I used to know are still there, so I'll be up for that one! A Cup run is very important to Fulham, we are obviously looking to get as far as we can, but the Saints match is a home draw and I am looking forward to that.
"The more games you play together, you can get confidence and wins on the spin and hopefully you can take that into the league. We've got four games left against teams that are around us - four games we can get three points from and I believe we will do.
"We have a couple of players out - Bonnie Horwood, who has been one of our best players this season, and Emma Thomas as well - both our central midfielders. We've had people filling in for them, myself being one of them, and it is not naturally our position so when those two are back it will be excellent. Natasha Dowie is also out, another young England striker, so having those three players back would be like three new signings for us. We would then have the strongest squad we can and then we can look to moving up the league. It's all positives and we are looking forward to the rest of the season."
