National cup competitions for girls launched

The Northern Ireland Youth Football Association (NIYFA) has launched its first ever National Cup competitions for girls’ teams from Under-11 to Under-13.

The three competitions aim to provide young female footballers with a platform to showcase their talents and to enable girls’ teams to compete against their counterparts from across Northern Ireland.

The introduction of the Girls’ National Cup for the U11, U12 and U13 age groups aligns with NIYFA’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and providing equal opportunities for all players, regardless of gender.

The three nine-a-side competitions will feature teams from the various regions competing in a knockout format. Matches will be held at different venues across the country, ensuring accessibility for all participating teams.

The Girls’ National Cup competitions are expected to become an annual event, growing in popularity and participation each year.

It represents a significant milestone in the development of girls’ and women’s football in Northern Ireland and sets the stage for future expansion, according to NIYFA.
