SWPL2 play-off finalists confirmed 

The Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) can confirm that the 2024-25 SWPL 2 Play-off Final will be contested by the Scottish Women’s Premier League seventh place finishers, Rossvale and the runners-up of the Scottish Women’s Championship, the University of Stirling.

The match will take place at the Albert Bartlett Stadium, Airdrie, on Friday 23rd May with a kick off time of 7.30pm. Tickets will go on sale at 2pm today (Monday 19th May) and are priced at just £6 for an adult and £2 for concessions. Tickets can be purchased via the Airdrieonians ticketing website.

East Fife will return to the SWPL 2 next season after two seasons away, securing the Scottish Women’s Championship title in style. The University of Stirling fought off strong competition from the remaining top 6 teams in the Scottish Women’s Championship to seal second spot with a game to spare and book their place in the SWPL 2 Play-off Final.

Who they would face was only confirmed on the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League 2 final day as Rossvale, who despite a 5-1 defeat to Hamilton Academical, held on to seventh spot with Ayr United relegated following their final day defeat to Kilmarnock.

The format of the one-legged tie adds to the drama and tension of a play-off final that promises to be a fascinating encounter. With both teams fighting for the prize of SWPL 2 football next season, I have no doubt it will result in absorbing football and be a momentous occasion for all involved.
