Old Firm rivals to meet in semis

It was a good weekend for home clubs in the quarter finals of the Sky Sports Club as all recorded victories to move themselves into the last four.

The tie of the round saw Celtic play host to Glasgow City in a live televised clash on Friday night and the Hoops were to repeat their win when the sides met in the league last month, this time with a 3-0 scoreline. Celtic never really looked back after Natalie Ross gave them a sixth minute lead and after the break, Amy Gallacher doubled their advantage and Katherine Loferski sealed the win with the third goal.

Cup holders Rangers meanwhile took on Boroughmuir Thistle, who were the last remaining team from outside the top flight in the competition. It looked to be a formidable task for Thistle going into the game and it was made even tougher when Tessel Middag gave Rangers the lead in the opening minute. Megan Bell quickly added a second and then Rio Hardy netted a double, scoring either side of half time. Kirsty Howat made it five just before the hour mark and after Laura Berry put them further ahead, Eilidh Austin rounded off the scoring and a 7-0 victory with six minutes remaining.

Hibernian have been in good scoring form in recent weeks and they continued this as they also netted seven times without reply past Dundee Utd at the Meadowbank Stadium. Last season’s runners-up led through an Eilidh Adams goal at half time and after Jorian Baucom made it two, Adams netted twice more in quick succession to complete her hat-trick. Ellis Notley increased their lead with the fifth, before Siobhan Hunter and Lauren Doran-Barr added late goals.

Partick Thistle complete the semi final line up, reaching this stage of the Cup for the first time in their history as they defeated Montrose 2-1. The first half was goalless but on the hour mark, Montrose went ahead through Louise Brown - the only goal scored by an away side on the day. The visitors remained in front until two goals in a four minute spell, from Rachel Donaldson and Imogen Longcake, turned the match around in Partick’s favour.

The draw for the semi finals was conducted on Sky Sports News on Thursday morning and it has produced the following ties:

Celtic v Rangers

Partick Thistle v Hibernian

Ties are to be played on or before Sunday 21st January.

The final will be played at Tynecastle Park on 23/24 March.
