Hamlet make history
London Seaward 0 Dulwich Hamlet 1
Dulwich Hamlet claimed their first ever win at FAWNL level with a single goal away victory at London Seaward.
This special moment in the short history of the club was well deserved after a dominant display at the TechSoc.com stadium in front of 120 spectators. Seaward made it difficult with a determined defensive showing which kept them in the game right to the end but offered little to trouble the Dulwich defence.
Seaward keeper Alex Baker was soon in action and showed excellent handling and anticipation throughout to earn her the player of the match award from the opposition team. Lily Price threatened to open the scoring with a dipping free kick from the left which flew just over on 19 minutes and her corner deliveries were spot on but Seaward were well organised and very committed. Dulwich were mainly restricted to long range efforts before the break which flew wide or well held by Baker.
Dulwich continued to press and were very nearly ahead when a Price corner was met with a powerful downward header which Baker parried and then scrambled away, receiving a knock for her bravery..
Dulwich were able, unlike a depleted Seaward, to ring the changes. On the hour, the deadlock was finally broken with a fine move down the left by substitute Angie Dunbar-
Seaward by no means let their heads drop and with Katherine Long a prolific striker there was always the chance of a Seaward leveller. The excellent Dulwich defence ensured that the home team were limited to a couple of long range efforts and corners before the Dulwich players could celebrate with the travelling Pepper Army.
Ironically, the two clubs met again at the same venue in the FAWNL Cup during the week.
