Hamilton Accies and Rangers win NextGen Finals

The inaugural cup finals weekend has taken place following the first full year of the NextGen girls' performance programme.

The culmination of an exciting season saw Rangers face off against Celtic in the Under-15s category whilst Hamilton Accies took on Hearts in the Under-17s age group.

Both games took place at Falkirk Stadium in challenging conditions with Rangers the first to lift the trophy in the 2pm kick off. Rangers were dominant throughout the match, securing a decisive 8-1 victory over Celtic. Player of the match went to Rangers and Scotland youth international, Phoebe O’Donnell, who bagged four goals on the day.

The second and final match of the day went all the way to penalties with nothing between the two sides in regulation time. It was Accies who held on to secure the silverware from spot kicks, winning 5-4 over Hearts. Player of the match went to Accies goalkeeper Sophie Guesnier with a resilient display throughout, including two penalty saves.

Scotland Women’s national team youth coaches Michael McArdle, Michael Tuohy and Nichola Greig were all present to award the medals on the day with Lorna Cameron, Performance Officer. Scottish football legend Rose Reilly was also in attendance as well as Scotland Women’s National Team Head Coach, Melissa Andreatta.
