The last First Round Qualifying tie in the Vitality Women's FA Cup was played on Sunday and it was Shrewsbury Town who went through with a 4-1 victory against Walsall Ladies.
The teams were actually meeting each other for the third week in a row, with their league match being followed by the original tie seven days later but, due to the officials having mistakenly played extra time instead of going straight to penalties when the score was 3-3 at the end of ninety minutes, the Football Association ordered that the match must be replayed.
Shrewsbury had been the eventual ‘winners' of the original abandoned match but they took the lead this time around through Maddie Jones, midway through the first half. The Saddlers battled and Georgia Cox finished well to ensure that the scoreline was level at the break.
The Shrews started the second half strongly and quickly went back in front via a Shannon McShane penalty, and Vikki Owens made it three went a long range lobbed effort. Maddie Jones rounded off the scoring with a solo goal, her second on the day.
Shrewsbury will be away to fellow West Midlands League club Westfields Women in the Second Round Qualifying, to be played on Sunday 3rd October.
