English County and other Leagues News - Enfield secure league title - 25 Mar 2020 - Women's Football News

Enfield Town Reserves have dominated matters in Division Two North of the Greater London Women's League this season and on they secured the league title with their eleventh straight victory.

Enfield opened up the campaign with a 6-0 victory over Denham Utd Res and have never looked back from that point. An important win came in the third game, 2-1 against Headstone Manor, and they soon pulled away from their rivals at the top of the table.

The return meeting with Denham last Sunday proved to be the decisive one as they put themselves beyond the reach of all of their rivals, clinching the title when a goal from Olivia Martin gave them a 1-0 victory.

Enfield Town Reserves are managed by Kerrie Marlborough, with Roger Brown as her assistant. Laura Elias is captain whilst Leyla Yahioglu is leading goalscorer, having found the net on 13 occasions.

"This title win has been a building process over the last couple of seasons," Kerrie told Women's Soccer Scene. "The previous manager Katrina Moore, myself and Roger Brown, were trying to build a team that we hoped over the next few season could go on to win the league.

"Last season, we were strong contenders for a while, but we weren't quite strong enough. So this season I wanted to take what we had done last season and build on it, and work on the things that I felt let us down last season, and for me I feel this season we have become a stronger team.

"I used to be a defender, so my main focus was working with the back line, and was something I felt we could change and build stronger and these girls have done that. So far this season in the league, we have only conceded five goals, which is a huge credit to them.

"This team has grown over these last couple of years, and I'm so proud of how far they have come. I was lucky enough to play for the first team, and I wanted to give these girls the same experience and treatment as much as I can, to bring the reserves closer to the first team.

"I'm so happy the reserves were able to win the league this season, and I'm excited to see what they can do next season."
