Abingdon Town manager Kieran Beesley says that this Sunday's Women's FA Cup Second Round Qualifying tie against Chesham Utd will be a great opportunity for his players to shine on a bigger stage.
Abingdon, who were promoted to Division One of the Southern Region League at the start of the season, have the chance to take on the FA Women's National League side after beating Walton Casuals 4-3 after extra time in the previous round and Beesley told Women's Soccer Scene that the whole club is looking forward to the challenge.
"It's exciting for the club and women's section that after one year, we are now on a great early run in the FA cup and are really excited about our chances," he said. "We have great squad depth and potential to push on.
"I'm excited to see the girls grab this opportunity and prove themselves. We are a small club but are ready to do big things."
"We want to continue this run of form into the league and all cup competitions," added Abingdon captain Isi Meade. "Kieran has done his research all season and you can see the extra time and effort he has been putting in for each game. We will be well prepared, that's for sure!
"Everyone loves a cup run, especially in the FA Cup. We are under no illusions that we are one of the lowest ranked teams in the competition but everyone loves an upset, so why can't it be us!"
Vice captain Sam Mayo said: "I'm really looking forward to the game, we know we will be up against some tough opposition.
"As long as we prepare properly, we have every opportunity to get a result and cause a cup upset."
