We talk to...Laura Sears (Long Eaton United)
 Women's Football WNL Division 1 Midlands News - 6 Sep 2019
WNL Division 1 Midlands News - We talk to...Laura Sears (Long Eaton United) - 6 Sep 2019 - Women's Football NewsLong Eaton Utd have got off to a great start to the new season, winning all of their opening matches to leave themselves amongst the early pacesetters in FAWNL Division One Midlands after victories over Birmingham & West Midlands and Doncaster Rovers Belles.
We talked to Long Eaton striker Laura Sears, who described Sunday's win as ‘fantastic' and talked of her side's determination to build on their promising start:
WSS: Well done on a very good win on Sunday, how pleasing was it for you to win against tough opponents?
LS: It was a fantastic win for us, to get three points away from home against a strong side who are sure to be contenders at the top of the league this year was huge. The girls really demonstrated what we're about and how we aim to deliver ourselves this season. We were all pleased with our performance especially away from home.
WSS: Seeing as it was also your first away game, would you say it was the best result you have picked up so far?
LS: It was definitely a great result and we all battled hard for the win, it gave us really good momentum going into the Doncaster Belles game midweek, but to get three points against Doncaster Belles at home in midweek in front of a home crowd...well it doesn't really get much better than that does it?
WSS: Three wins out of three for you, given that you finished last season well, has the team approached the new season full of confidence?
LS: 100%, there has been some great additions to the squad during the summer along with retaining the backbone of our squad from last year, it's a dream start for us and we are really excited to see where we can go this season.
WSS: Have there been many changes or new arrivals at the club during the summer?
LS: As I've just mentioned, there has been some great additions this summer. We've added quality all over the pitch, bringing in a number of experienced players, all with Premier League quality, which has only added to an already ambitious squad. We've worked hard in preseason getting to know each other and I think that really shows on how we've started the season and our performances on the pitch
WSS: This Sunday you have a home game with newly promoted Leafield Athletic, will they be largely unknown opponents to you?
LS: Obviously as you mention they are league newcomers, however we will certainly not be taking our opponents lightly; they've picked up some results so far and we have only heard good things, so it will inevitably be another great clash down at Grange Park
WSS: Looking at the longer term, do you feel that the team is capable of building on this good start and staying amongst the leading teams during the season?
LS: Everyone is buzzing around the club from management right through the squad, all of us have the same ethos this season which is obviously to achieve. We are taking one game at a time, making no big bold statements but there is certainly a desire to retain a top spot going forward...
WSS: Overall, who do you think that the main title challengers will be this season in Division One Midlands?
LS: Erm, I think that's difficult to say at this point, obviously Wolves are always a favourite and Lincoln with their new club status will definitely be up there I think, but the league is highly competitive and at this stage anything could happen!
Our thanks to Laura!
