The inaugural Condor Ferries Women's Channel Islands League gets underway this weekend, with four of the six teams set to be in action.
JTC Jersey Wanderers, St Lawrence, Rozel Rovers and Grouville (all Jersey), plus Guernsey Northerners and Guernsey Ladies FC will compete in the division this season, and for the first time matches will be played in both islands, with all six teams facing each other home and away.
Headline sponsor Condor Ferries is subsidising the inter-island travel to make the competition financially viable.
"We're excited to get going in the new CI League and looking forward to testing ourselves against the Guernsey-based opposition as well as the Jersey sides," said JTC Jersey Wanderers captain Lauren Quemard.
"We had a really successful season last year and we're hoping to build on that, with some new players coming in this season."
The league kicks off on Saturday when Rozel Rovers host new club Guernsey Ladies FC at Le Couvent (3pm), before Grouville take on St Lawrence at Le Boulivot on Sunday (10.30am).
Tracey Peters, Condor Ferries' Community Officer, added: "We are committed to improving travel links with the islands for sport and other activities so are delighted to support the launch of the league this season."
The league was launched as an experiment last year in Jersey and sees one new team involved in 2019-20, with Guernsey Ladies FC entering. The two associations say the development of the competition is a significant step in the progress of the women's game in both islands.
Both the Guernsey FA and Jersey FA offer significant support and opportunities for girls and women's football in the islands.
