English County and other Leagues News - Taverham make first season impact - 3 Jun 2019 - Women's Football News

Taverham Women's Utd manager Kevin Robinson paid tribute to his team as they carried off the Division Two title in the Norfolk Women's League.

Assisted by Bill Artis and with Steve Walker as Coach, Taverham, who are captained by Katie Dunning, head the table by thirteen points following an impressive winning run after making their move up to senior women's football.

"This was our first season in ladies football, starting off in Division Two," Kevin Robinson told Women's Soccer Scene. "This league had a good selection of teams that have had previous experience in playing ladies football. This made every fixture a new and exciting challenge for the team, managers, coaches and the tremendous supporters that travelled with us every game.

"The team consisted of a lot of players that have been together since playing in the Under 11 league right through to adult, this season saw the inclusion of some very good and experienced players which gave the team a great balance. The team age at the start of the season was 16 with our oldest player being 18, hence the great support by the parents ensuring we could get the players to the fixtures, without this support we could not have achieved the goals set this season.

"We started off the season very nervously, not knowing what to expect and this game ended up a 0-0 draw against a experienced Freethorpe team. We then got into our stride and went on a winning streak of 15 games in both league and cup, this finally coming to a end in the League Cup against a very good Division One team in Sprowston.

"This set the benchmark for the rest of the season; we continued to get results through the hard work of the team, during this our biggest results were against Fakenham Ladies - who were the only team in our league unbeaten at the time - Long Stratton and Tavern Old Boys Ladies.

"Our team was scoring regularly with our top scorer Rebecca Sutton scoring a total of 38 goals and Abbie Walker, adding a further 29, leading the way. However every member of the squad contributed to this and at the end of the season we had scored a impressive 134 goals and only conceded 12 goals in the league, having won seventeen of our 20 matches.

"We finished the season as league champions and are now looking forward to playing in Division One next season."

Taverham squad: Laura Beevor, Catlyn Arnup, Katie Dunning, Jazmin Snelling, Lucy Staff, Charlotte Hurren, Maya Lawler, Hannah Artis, Summer Rogers, Abbie Walker, Rebecca Sutton, Tiegan Robinson, Laura Jones, Vicky Monsey.
