Cardiff City Women enhanced their claim for the runners-up spot in the Orchard Welsh Premier Women's League with a 4-1 victory away to Cyncoed Ladies on Sunday.
Alana Murphy opened the scoring for City with fourteen minutes on the clock, and she netted a second just ahead of half time. Emily Griffiths further increased her side's lead on the hour mark and Zoe Atkins made it four shortly afterwards. Sophie Norman grabbed an injury time consolation for the Mighty Oaks but it was too late to prevent City from picking up a result which moves them back into second place, ahead of Swansea City who now have a game in hand.
One other game was played in the league on Sunday and it produced a highly significant result.
Briton Ferry Llansawel notched up a 2-1 win against Abergavenny Women, their first league victory of the season and it takes them off the bottom of the table at the expense of Rhyl Ladies, whilst ending Abergavenny's hopes of finishing in the top two. The main action was confined to the last quarter of the game, starting when Kate Jeremiah gave Aber the lead. Lucy Powell brought Briton Ferry back on level terms and with six minutes remaining, Megan Kearle made it a lucky thirteenth league match and a win for the first time.
