We talk to...Paige Horsnell (Actonians)
 Women's Football WNL Division 1 South East News - 21 Dec 2018
WNL Division 1 South East News - We talk to...Paige Horsnell (Actonians) - 21 Dec 2018 - Women's Football NewsActonians Ladies produced one of their best results of the season to date on Sunday when they won 5-2 against AFC Wimbledon, four of the goals coming in the second half.
We talked to Actonians goalkeeper Paige Horsnell, who was pleased with her side's second half display and set her sights on improving on last season's seventh place finish:
WSS: Well done on an excellent result against one of the division's form teams, just how strong a second half performance was it from you?
PH: I think our performance was a massive improvement from the first half, scoring four great chances that we worked hard for and taking advantage of the opposition's mistakes.
WSS: How important though was the equaliser by Naomi Graham just before half time?
PH: This was very important as it gave us something to work and fight for. We had belief in the changing room at half time that we could go out and win the game and our team spirit was on a high.
WSS: After a spell where you played only once in six weeks, you have returned with three wins on the trot. Has there been any specific reason for your good run of form?
PH: I don't believe there is any specific reason, however we are definitely taking our chances now and scoring goals we deserve.
WSS: Is it now a case of finding consistency with results over a longer period of time?
PH: We are aiming to finish as high up the table as we can. Consistency is key in this league because no games are easy, every team can have an incredible game, therefore we need to make sure we are on form every game.
WSS: Because of the holidays, you will have to wait nearly a month until your next game, when you will be up against Stevenage. They beat you 5-2 on the opening day of the season, so presumably the team will be looking to avenge that result?
PH: We will definitely look to avenge the defeat, however the scoreline did not reflect the game against them and as mentioned before we are taking our chances more now, so we are definitely looking to get a good result against a strong team.
WSS: You are still going well in the County Cup, are you quietly confident that you can go all the way in this competition?
PH: I believe that every team has a chance to win this cup, you cannot take any opponent for granted in this competition. I believe Fulham will give us a good game as they will be up for playing a team a division above them so we have to make sure we are ready to perform on the day.
WSS: Sunday's win means that you are only two points off third place in the league, what are the aims for Actonians for the rest of the season?
PH: We aim to finish as high as we possibly can in the league and preferably higher than last season, which would be an achievement.
WSS: Looking at the division as a whole, do you think that anyone realistically can catch Crawley Wasps in the title race?
PH: My honest answer to that is no I don't think so. They have been the best side we have played this season and the talent in their team shows through the results that they have been getting. We still have another game against them so we look to improve on our previous result. We were missing some key players and almost our whole back line against them last time so to have these girls back in our squad will give us a boost from the last game.
Our thanks to Paige!
