Cup fever has hit Southampton FC, who are really looking forward to travelling to Milton Keynes Dons this weekend for the Second Round of the SSE Women's FA Cup.
Currently undefeated in all competitions this season, this is set to be the biggest challenge yet and the players and staff are extremely excited not only about the occasion but the opportunity to play against a Tier 3 team.
Southampton are one of two Regional League clubs left in the competition at this stage, along with Stockport County. They are no strangers to facing National League clubs in their cup run so far, having already knocked out Larkhall Athletic and Poole Town, but now they will take on a team two divisions higher in the plush surroundings of Stdium Stadium MK.
Preparation has been going well and there is real excitement amongst the squad. Head Of Girls & Women's Football and Head Coach Marieanne Spacey-Cale said: "As a squad, we are experiencing new things every week, and, this game, becomes the next part of our development.
"I am delighted at where we currently are after four months together growing and learning as a squad. The most pleasing thing about this group is their learning mentality and how they aspire to deliver the learning week on week. MK Dons will be a challenge that we have yet to face, a Tier 3 team in a competitive environment.
"All the squad, players and staff are excited, determined and ready for the experience and what we can learn from it."
Captain Shelly Provan added: "The staff and players have been working really hard to ensure that we are progressing as a team and as individuals week on week.
"Each FA Cup game has given us a different challenge and Sunday is going to be another exciting challenge. We are all looking forward to what I'm sure will be a very competitive game of football!"
