Early goal defeats Brazil

Fran Kirby scored the only goal as England Women defeated Brazil in their opening World Cup warm up match.
Phil Neville's side created a host of chances and probably should have won by a bigger margin against a lacklustre Brazilian side which threatened little throughout the match.
England got on the front foot from the kick off and this brought an early reward as Nikita Parris crossed from the right for Kirby to plant a header past Barbara with two minutes on the clock.
The high pressing game from the England side was making Brazil uncomfortable and Kirby almost turned provider when her cut back picked Rachel Daly who drove her shot over.
There was disappointment as six times World Player of the Year Marta was forced off with a hamstring injury midway through the first half and nearly all of Brazil's attacking threat disappeared with her from that point.
Parris was in great form out wide with her pace and directness and the in-form striker looked likeliest to add to England's lead, drilling a shot wide from the edge of the area and then lifting an effort over the bar after her initial strike had been charged down by Monica.
Daly almost extended England's advantage early in the second half with a well struck effort which brought out a fine save from Barbara.
The only real scare came when Raquel latched onto a back pass from Alex Greenwood but Carly Telford did well to come out and block the resulting shot to avert the danger.
England continued to dictate the match but couldn't provide a second goal on the day, however they will be delighted to come away with a win from the first ever meeting between the two countries, and this will stand them in good stead for their friendly against Australia on Tuesday night.
