Stoke City v Burnley Girls & Ladies
 Women's Football FA Women's Cup News - 3 Dec 2017

SSE Women's FA Cup - Road to the Final

Burnley Girls & Ladies brought Alnwick Town's excellent Cup run to an end in the last round, when goals from Linny Craig (2), Sarah Greenhalgh and Leah Embley gave them a 4-0 victory and took them through to the Second Round for the first time in their history. Burnley's reward is a tough one, for they must travel south to take on FAWPL Northern Division side Stoke City, who enter the competition at this stage.

A ladies team representing Stoke City was formed in the summer of 2001...and they have been climbing the leagues ever since. The inaugural season in the West Midlands League Division One ended in success as the team finished third in the table and gained promotion via the play-offs. From there they consolidated their position in the West Midlands Premier Division and began entering into the Staffordshire County Ladies Challenge Cup.

A first final was reached in 2007, which they won, and they have now lifted the trophy ten times, including a 5-0 success over Sporting Khalsa Development in last season's Final.

Promotion to the Midland Combination was secured in 2009 as the team finished as Champions, whilst an historic treble was earned in 2013 with the Ladies scooping the League Championship, League Cup and County Cup. That title saw the Ladies promoted to the FA Women's Premier League (North) and they have more than held their own in the division, finishing fourth in the last two seasons.

Currently managed by Steve Swanwick, the team moved to their new home at Community Drive in the summer of 2016 and the Ladies continue to make positive strides both on and off the pitch, announcing a Development team for the first time in their history ahead of the 2017-18 campaign. The furthest the Club have progressed in the FA Women's Cup is to the Fourth Round in the 2014-15 season, where they were knocked out by WSL side Everton.

Manager Steve Swanwick took over the reins for a second time midway through last season, guiding the Club to the joint highest finish in their history (fourth in FA Women's Premier League Northern Division). The team is captained by Meg Bowyer, a long serving skipper who is adept at playing in central defence or midfield. Last season's top scorer, Ashleigh Hayes, is recently returning to fitness, hitting the back of the net in the 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion last time out - her fifth strike of the season. The current leading scorer is Hannah Keryakoplis, who has scored eight goals in 14 matches from midfield.
