Liskeard Girls Under-14s wrapped up the title in style this weekend, winning their last two games in the Kernow Youth league to end the season on 12 wins out of 12 games.
Only needing to secure a point from the two games, the league title was almost in the bag but Liskeard had more than that on their minds as they traveled to Wadebridge on Saturday. With only seven players available for the game a reshuffle of the team was needed which saw central midfielder and captain Imogen Cooper moving to centre back but that didn't seem to affect the girls as they romped home with a 7-0 win thanks to goals from Lisa Pearce (2), Molly Walsh (2), Ezme Wells (2) and Melissa Sheppard which wrapped up the league with one game to spare.
On Sunday, the girls could have been forgiven for taking it easy after already sewing up the league and having played a tough game the day before but they had one more goal in their sights and that was to complete a perfect season. The game away to third placed Truro Kestrels was a good challenge for the girls and, knowing they were so close to completing the perfect season, it added a bit more tension to the game. The girls however were able to stand this test of nerves as after what was a close game for long periods they ran home comfortable 4-1 winners in the end with goals from Ezme Wells (2), Lisa Pearce and Chloe Carrubba.
Liskeard ended the season with a goal difference of +70, scoring 83 goals in the process. Coaches Ian Woodhouse and Adam Sibley could not be more delighted with the way the girls have gone about their business this season, playing some fantastic football, showing an amazing work rate in each game and a fantastic level of consistency not just in their results but in their performances.
The girls are now getting ready for the County Cup Final next weekend where they will face Truro with the winners going on to represent Cornwall at the Tesco Cup South West Regional Final in Bristol in May.
Liskeard Girls would like to thank sponsors KRP Electrical, the players and their parents for all their support for what has been a spectacular season so far. Next season Liskeard will running girls teams at Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 age groups, if you are interested in joining please give either Ian Woodhouse a call on (07815) 860630 or Adam Sibley on (07884) 420974.
