Queen's Park Rangers gave their Southern Division survival chances a shot in the arm as they claimed a shock 1-0 win away to leaders Keynsham Town.
Cherelle Albert scored the only goal of the game, twelve minutes from time, to give Rangers three precious points and complete a disastrous week for Keynsham in which they were beaten three times. Keynsham had earlier been awarded a penalty for a foul on Polly Wardle but Kerry Bartlett shot wide from the spot and they could not break down a stubborn Rangers defence.
With West Ham Utd in F.A.Women's Cup action, the other challengers are stacking up behind Keynsham and are led by Portsmouth, who boosted their promotion hopes with a 3-1 victory over Gillingham. After the Gills had missed an early penalty, Justine Lorton fired Pompey ahead on the half hour with a 25-yard strike and Kirsty McGee increased their lead on the stroke of half time from the penalty spot. Lucy Quinn sealed the points for Portsmouth midway through the second half before Danni Farmer grabbed a late consolation for the Gills.
Charlton Athletic continued their excellent recent form and their 1-0 success away to Colchester Utd has lifted them into fourth. A 32nd minute strike from Fliss Gibbons earned the Addicks their fourth win in five matches.
Cardiff City remain well in contention but had to settle for a 1-1 draw away to Yeovil Town, for whom the point was an important one. Nicola Cousins gave Cardiff an eighth minute lead before Yeovil, playing their first match under the joint managership of Nigel Williams and Sarah Lawler, hit back to take a share of the spoils with an equaliser from Jemma Tewkesbury.
