England will have to wait and see if they are to go through to the next phase of the UEFA Under-17 Championships after their final group match against Belgium ended in a goalless draw.
Only the group winners are assured of qualification - along with the six best runners-up - and England finish in second place despite not conceding a goal in any of their three matches.
England went into the game needing to beat group hosts Belgium, whose goal difference was one better than theirs, and found it hard to break down a stubborn Belgian defence. Their best effort came when Meaghan Sargeant forced a good save from Nicky Evrard and after the break, the home side came more into the game.
Things could have turned out worse for England as both Anne Muni and Lucinda Michez struck the woodwork in injury time but they held out for a crucial point which leaves them in a strong position to be one of the second placed teams to progress.
England Under-17: Jasmine Elliott, Aoife Mannion, Paige Williams, Melissa Lawley, Meaghan Sargeant, Leah Galton, Lucy Gunton-Jones (sub Bethan Merrick 75mins), Sherry McCue, Bethany Mead, Anna Young, Katie Wilkinson (sub Bianca Bragg 68mins). Subs not used: Megan Walsh, Jade Bailey, Lauren Haynes, Taylor O'Leary, Holly Crosby.
