![]() Both sides served up an exciting feast of attacking football to warm the sizeable crowd. An early goal from Writtle's Elle Goodwin, after only six minutes, caused a roar of excitement from the crowd, after Charlotte Barnard had won possession on the edge of the box. She intelligently squared the ball to Goodwin, who made no mistake with a crisp finish into the bottom corner of the net. Writtle doubled their lead in the 27th minute, again through Elle Goodwin. A clear run down the field saw another clinical finish, the ball plummeting into the back of the net. This was followed minutes later, Courtney Clarke making it 3-0 a cross-cum-shot from wide on the left, catching the keeper out and the ball dropping into the far corner of the net. In the second half, a goal from Select XI's Megan Cairns (from Maldon Saints) in the 57th minute secured what turned out to be a consolation goal. She managed to outpace the Writtle defence through the centre of the pitch into the opposing box, a late shot giving the keeper no chance from close range. Both teams continued to play attacking football but both defences looked solid throughout, restricting any further goals. After the final whistle the presentations of trophies and the Cup were made by Bob Cooper's widow Pearl, and their son Martin. A thoroughly enjoyable evening for both teams and, although the Select XI team lost, they also went away with their heads held high, along with a trophy.
