![]() The girls were lucky enough to meet with an England international, Rachel Williams of Doncaster Rovers Belles. Rachel took time out from her training to meet with each of the eight teams, and their parents, to answer questions, sign autographs and have photographs taken. Rachel spent most of her youth involved with Leicester City Girls/Ladies and only moved to Doncaster in 2008. She spoke about her aspirations to be part of the full England squad going to next summer's Women's World Cup in Germany, and the comparisons in wages and lifestyles between women and men. Rachel told one group how she receives a salary from the FA to play for England but also has another job as a plasterer to help with her income. The girls from all of the schools enjoyed their talk with her, as well as the pictures and autographs before Rachel helped to decide the Player of the Tournament in the final. The final was a well contested game but Higham Ferrers took the edge mainly due to their captain and Player of the Tournament, Chloe Atter, although it was a very strong team performance. Mr. Jon Dunn from SouthEnd School put together the tournament and fixture programme for the day, which saw all eight teams compete in fixtures before going into a Plate or Cup section of the tournament. Credit must go to Jon for his passion and dedication to girls football as without him, this tournament would not happen. The girls have been encouraged to take part in some sessions at Higham Town Colts on a Wednesday from 6pm-7pm with a view to starting one or two teams at Under-10/Under-11 that will compete in the Girls MDH Midshires League next season.
