Prestatyn Girls FC, from the North Wales Coast, were victorious at the Tesco Under-14 Cup Welsh National Final in Cardiff this weekend.
The team, who put in a great performance, will now represent Wales at the UK Final, to be held at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton on May 16.
Prestatyn Girls progressed through their group unbeaten, drawing their first game 0-0 and winning their second 1-0, which saw them finish on top with four points. In a well contested Final they defeated Garden Village Ladies FC, who were the West Wales representatives. At the end of extra time the score was still 0-0 but after a nail biting penalty shootout, Prestatyn emerged victorious.
Welsh International and Cardiff City FC star Joe Ledley attended the event in Cardiff and he chose talented player Delyth Morgan, from Prestatyn as Goalkeeper of the Tournament, for her impressive performances throughout the day and her three consecutive clean sheets.
Prestatyn manager Ivan Nattrass said: "It's absolutely fantastic to win the Tesco Cup as the girls have worked really hard this season. It's been a beautiful day, the weather has been fantastic and we have had a great time here."
Joe Ledley commented: "It's great to be involved with the Tesco Cup for the first time. As a very young player I played at this exact same ground with the academy, so it's really nice coming back and watching so many young talented footballers. A tournament like the Tesco Cup didn't exist when I was involved in grassroots football, so this is a fantastic opportunity for young footballers across the UK."
