York City won the North Riding County Cup for the first time since 2006 after a shock victory in the Final against Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough, of the Northern Combination, started the game at a quick pace with York defending well in all areas of the field but as the game went on, York grew in confidence.
The first half ended goalless and the pattern of the match continued after the break with Middlesbrough having the better of things but finding York goalkeeper Sam Knight in outstanding form.
York began to carve out chances of their own as the game wore on but neither side could break the deadlock. Extra time still could not produce a decisive goal and the match headed into a penalty shootout.
After Middlesbrough missed with their first attempt, York were successful in scoring their opening spot kick and both teams continued to find the net until the final penalty, from which Donna Corner stepped up to coolly slot home to give the North East League side the trophy.
