Blackburn were back on level terms shortly afterwards though as Katie Anderton broke into the box to slide the ball home. The Premier League side then pressed hard to get a second goal with Anderton hitting the post and Nikki Twohig and Lynda Shepherd both went close with headers. After the break, Anderton shot wide when through on goal in the opening minute and Twohig fired over the bar. As Blackburn pressed, Salford dug in deep to hold out and take the game into extra time despite Amy Kane going close late on with a long range effort which was inches over the bar. Blackburn finally made the breakthrough ten minutes into the extra period with substitute Nicole Foster converting a Fran Sullivan cross from close range. With Salford tiring, Blackburn took a firm grip on the game as Foster - who was making her first team debut - was on hand to score her second goal from Anderton's cross and in the final minute of the match, Anderton was again the provider as she set up Danielle Sheen to score the fourth goal.
