Women's Over-25's tournament
 Women's Football News 3 Mar 2010

Women's Over-25's tournament - 3 Mar 2010 - Women's Football NewsOn Friday 26th February at the Goals Centre in Bexleyheath, London FA & the London Borough of Bexley ran a tournament for females over the age of 25.

18 months previous to this, Claire Shevlin - who was the Greater London Women's & Girls Football Development Officer, ran a similar tournament which was a great success. So following on from this, Claire, who is now FDO at Bexley and Emma Barnes from the London FA, got together to get this over 25's tournament running for a second time. The response was good from local teams and teams from further afar, and with funding in place the evening promised to be a fantastic night for all involved.

On a cold night we had 8 teams, split into two groups, followed by semi finals and then a final. The group games went well, and all players showed good sportsmanship and commitment, the semi finals were both close games, but eventually two finalists were decided, and the final was between, 'Never to Old' Vs 'The Vets'. Again this was a very close game with only one goal in it, and the winners on the night were 'The Vets'.

One player from the Bexley Masters team, said: ''It has been a really enjoyable evening of football, and it is something that I would like to take part in on a more regular basis. The levels of ability have been mixed, but it has been good to be able to get my boots on and have a run around in an enjoyable environment.''

There are plans to do this kind of format on a more regular basis and at other locations across London, so keep checking www.londonfa.com for more information or contact emma.barnes@londonfa.com.
