Barnet v Nottingham Forest

Barnet v Nottingham Forest - 21 Feb 2010 - Women's Football NewsF.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Nottingham Forest battled through a tricky Fifth Round tie with a 1-0 win against a stubborn Yeovil Town side, thanks to an Andi Bell goal, and they will once again carry the baton of favourites in the last eight.

This time, Lisa Dawkins' side must go to play Barnet, who reached this stage by winning a thrilling tie 3-2 against West Ham Utd after extra time with strikes from Holly Sandow, Gemma Rudman and Claire Thomas. This will be the first time they have faced top flight opponents and their first at home, having previously won at Gillingham and Colchester Utd.

Barnet are relishing the underdogs tag for the tie against Forest as they currently lead the Southern Division by five points with promotion remaining the club's main priority. However, the Bees' run to the last eight of the F.A.Women's Cup for the first time since the 2000-01 season has added spice to their campaign.

Manager Tracy Kevins has assembled a good squad in recent seasons and they have edged closer to the top spot in the Southern Division during that time, having finished as runners-up to Millwall Lionesses last season. They possess a strong forward line in Stacey Sowden and Holly Sandow, supported by former England international Danielle Murphy, Cheryl Williams, Claire Thomas and Katie O'Leary who have all been regulars on the scoresheet. Another former Charlton player, Leanne Reidy, is a key figure in defence and has appeared in the Final during the past.

This promises to be a fascinating Cup tie and Forest, who have battled through in each round so far, will need to be at their best to see off the challenge of the home side who will be seeking to prove they can compete with the top teams. Everton await the winners of this tie which takes place at Hanwell Town FC.
