Bill raising Birtley's profile!
 Women's Football News 15 Feb 2010

Bill raising Birtley's profile! - 15 Feb 2010 - Women's Football NewsSince Bill Godward was asked to coach Birtley Town in March 2009, ten new players have signed on for him and new manager Richie Brown.

Bill had intended to retire from the game after 35 years of involvement in women's football, but found he was looking for something to do on a Sunday.

He went along and was asked for his help and experience in making and developing the profile of the club, which is currently involved in a promotion challenge in the Northern Division of the North East League. He has got off to a great start with actors Tim Healy and Denise Welch becoming honorary presidents, Tim saying it would be an honour as he is a Birtley-born lad.

On Bill's meeting with Tim and Denise, he was also introduced to Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, writers of Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Porridge and Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads amongst others. Dick and Ian presented Bill with a cheque for the club.
