Swindon Supermarine emerged as winners from the annual Gloucestershire County Women's League five-a-side tournament on Sunday, beating their other entered team in the Final. Quedgeley Wanderers were the victors in the inaugural Trophy Competition although it needed a penalty shootout to decide their Final against Longlevens Greyhounds. A well attended and excellent day's football at the Cirencester Arena saw 20 teams contesting for the prizes and honour of winning. It was a bit of a cold start on the day (weatherwise) but things soon warmed up with some very good scores and close matches. This year, as well as the Trophy Competition for the 1st and 2nd placed Group winners and runners-up, the league also we ran a Plate competition for those teams that came 3rd and 4th in the Group Stages. "Many thanks go to the referees who worked tirelessly on the day with not much of a break between matches," said League Secretary Rob Fyfe. "Without those guys, you (and we) would not have a tournament. Also thanks to all committee members who worked to put this tournament together and who helped out on the day. Thanks again to all concerned." Several teams could have gone through to the quarter finals stage from the pool groups but they finished as follows: GROUP 1 Swindon Supermarine Team 2 Forest of Dean Reds Cheltenham Spa Ladies Quedgeley Wanderers Mitcheldean GROUP 2 Cam Bulldogs Yate Team 1 Newent Team 1 Longlevens Abbeymead Yellows GROUP 3 Swindon Supermarine Team 1 Wootton Bassett Forest of Dean Blues Abbeymead Blues Cirencester Team 2 GROUP 4 Bitton Newent Team 2 Yate Team 2 Cirencester Team 1 Cheltenham Town Reserves Trophy Competition Quarter Finals Swindon Supermarine (Team 2) 5 Yate Town (Team 1) 0 Cam Bulldogs 3 Forest of Dean Reds 0 Swindon Supermarine (Team 1) 1 Newent Town (Team 2) 0 Bitton 2 Wootton Bassett 0 Semi Finals Swindon Supermarine (Team 2) 1 Bitton 0 Swindon Supermarine (Team 1) 3 Cam Bulldogs 1 Final Swindon Supermarine (Team 1) 2 Swindon Supermarine (Team 2) 1 Plate competition Quarter Finals Cheltenham Spa 0 Longlevens 1 Newent Town (Team 1) 2 Quedgeley Wanderers 3 Forest of Dean Blues 3 Cirencester (Team 1) 1 Yate Town (Team 2) 4 Abbeymead Blues 0 Semi Finals Longlevens 1 Yate Town (Team 2) 0 Forest of Dean Blues 1 Quedgeley Wanderers 3 Final Longlevens 2 Quedgeley Wanderers 2 (Quedgeley won 3-2 on penalties) The winners, runners-up and referees were presented with trophies commemorating the day by Sue Henson-Green, President Elect of the GCWFL.
