The Football Academy is a partnership between Moulton College, Northampton Town FC and Northamptonshire FA and is open to girls who wish to study for a national qualification and improve their standard of play through regular coaching sessions with a professional coach. The entry requirements are 4 GCSEs at grade C and above and a genuine interest in playing football regularly as there will be daily training sessions. Study methods include lectures, tutorials, assignments and practical work. Assessment is continuous and comprises written and practical tests, presentations and work experience. As well as pursuing their academic studies students will take part in coaching sessions conducted by a qualified coach, with many years experience playing professional football, coaching and developing young players. In addition to the football sessions all students will be given the opportunity to undertake a Level 2 Sports Coaching Award. Students can expect to undertake the following units amongst others during the 2 year programme as part of the BTEC National Diploma in Sports Performance and Excellence: 1. Body in Action 2. Health & Safety 3. Athlete's Lifestyle 4. Sports Nutrition 5. Psychology for Sports Performance 6. Training and Fitness 7. Sport and Society 8. Sports Coaching 9. Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport The Football Programme consists of: 1. Development of the skills of football to a high level. 2. Ladder work based on the Speed Agility Quickness (SAQ) programme to improve football skills. 3. A strength and conditioning programme. 4. Development of team play. The football sessions take place during the day and are fully integrated into the timetable. Moulton College has excellent sports facilities including water, sand based and third generation rubber crumb Astroturf pitches, two indoor playing arenas, a fitness suite and a free weights training area as well as numerous grass pitches. The College enters a number of competitions and fixtures including British Colleges, English College Football Association and English Schools. The college links with Northampton Town offers opportunities to represent the club at under 18 level in regional competitions and the FA Youth Cup. Students who are successful on their academic courses may progress on to higher courses and programmes leading to degree study both at Moulton and at universities throughout the UK or alternatively seek employment in the sports or football industries.
