West Ham Utd inflicted a first defeat of the season on Southern Division leaders Barnet as two early goals gave them a 2-0 victory. Zoe Marshall gave the Hammers a second minute lead and Holly Griffin added the second midway through the first half. West Ham therefore move to within four points of Barnet and are the only unbeaten team left in the division. Portsmouth are a further point adrift following their 1-0 success away to Crystal Palace. Leeta Rutherford scored the only goal of the game with nine minutes remaining to keep Pompey's challenge on course and add to Palace's frustrations - they have now lost all nine league games and four have been by the odd goal. Reading FC Women had started the day in second place but lost ground as they drew 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion. Indeed, Brighton seemed to be on their way to victory via Katie McIntyre's strike late in the first half but Francesca Kirby rescued a point for Reading by equalising in the dying minutes. There was also a late and decisive goal at Colchester Utd where the home team edged out Keynsham Town 2-1. After a goalless first half, Helen Bass put the U's in front just before the hour mark with Brianna Oeser levelling four minutes later. A draw looked likely before Sinead Redford grabbed a winner for Colchester in injury time. Cardiff City continue to inch their way up the table and are in the top half after beating Queen's Park Rangers 2-1. Terri Beddows gave Cardiff a first half lead which was cancelled out by Cherelle Albert, with Nicola Cousins settling matters in the South Wales side's favour midway through the second half. Charlton Athletic meanwhile claimed an important 1-0 win over WFC Fulham. The only goal of the game came in the opening minute, Katie Flack's strike giving the Addicks the points.
