![]() Basingstoke Town triumphed 5-0 at Eastleigh to book their place in the Second Round Qualifying and they are away again, against University of Portsmouth. The University of Portsmouth first joined the local women's football scene in 2000 after originally 'making up the numbers' in the Hampshire League Cup and joining what was then the only Hamphire Women's League. From there, and with the support of the University, the club has gone from strength to strength by winning the League Cup a record three times, the Portsmouth Cup twice and consistently finishing in the top three of Division One. Last season saw the first team complete the league and cup 'double' with promotion as Champions to the Southern Region League, with the reserves echoing this success finishing their first season as Champions of Division Two. Success on the pitch has been perfectly reflected by the hard work off it. With the club expanding to include youth teams at under-10, under-12 and under-14 levels, they are currently working on Charter Status to cement their status. With heavy links to the University, particularly the Up For Sport volunteers programme and the Soccerette Academy, the club offers playing, coaching and development opportunities to students, alumni and community members with a focus on youth development In 2009, the ladies joined with the men's side of the club to sign a new sponsorship deal with Jobsite and Passion for Portsmouth, in association with Portsmouth Football Club. Lee Moyce is manager with Tom Lloyd as Club manager, Louisa Cambridge captains the side whilst Justine McNally undertakes the role of Secretary. This promises to be one of the ties of the round between the top two teams in the table in Southern Region League Division One. The previous league meeting this season ended in a 4-4 draw and the match, at Langstone Campus, should be another exciting contest.
