![]() Gateshead Rutherford Ravens ran out 9-0 winners over Newcastle Medics to take their place in the First Round Qualifying this Sunday. Their opponents will be Birtley Town who received a bye through to this stage. Birtley Town were formed in 2005-06 as Pelton Newfield Ladies by manager Mark Lumsden and Richie Brown, playing in the Durham County League and gaining promotion in their second season to the Northern Division of the North East League, where they still play. They became Birtley Town Ladies at the beginning of the 2008-09 season to become part of Birtley Town F.C. and are still managed by Mark and Richie with players Chelsea Easton and Lyndsey Brown remaining from the original squad, although Stacey Bonney has returned after spells with Newcastle Utd and Whitley Bay. This season, Birtley have also acquired the services of experienced coach Bill Godward from Peterlee Town. They have started the new campaign well and beat Durham City 1-0 last Sunday to replace them at the top of the Northern Division.
