National Division leaders Millwall Lionesses went down to their first defeat of the season when losing 2-1 away to Sunderland.
Millwall went into a fifth minute lead through a cross-cum-shot by Meghan McKeag but Sunderland were back on level terms ten minutes ahead of the interval when Jordan Nobbs drove home a shot from the edge of the area. An evenly contested game, played in the right spirit, was settled four minutes from time via a 20-yard strike from Sunderland full back Abby Holmes.
Nottingham Forest are in second place following a 1-0 win away to Bristol Academy, who are still searching their first points and goals. A tight game of few chances was decided in the 64th minute when a pinpoint cross from Andi Bell was powerfully headed home at the far post by Beth Bailey. Bell went close to a second late on and Academy almost snatched an equaliser in injury time when Katie Daley headed narrowly wide.
Watford moved up to third place with a 3-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers. Katie Anderton's first half strike for Blackburn was cancelled out after the break by Faye Marsh and Sarah Wiltshire netted two further goals before Rovers pulled one back through Karen Burke.
Doncaster Rovers Belles notched up their first win of the season, 1-0 away to Birmingham City. Liz Hansen marked her return from injury for the Belles by scoring the only goal of the game in the 12th minute. Precious Hamilton was denied a second goal by a good save from Blues goalkeeper Sue Wood whilst at the other end, Cristina Torkildsen hit the post with a header.
