Rangers setting early pace - 2 Sep 2009 - Women's Football NewsQueen's Park Rangers are the new leaders of the Southern Division following an emphatic 9-2 win over Colchester Utd.

Cherelle Albert led the scoring with a four-goal haul while strike partner Beth Curtis weighed in with a hat-trick. Simone Dwyer and Seun Odeniyi also found the net with Colchester replying through Helen Bass and Kat Parnell.

Barnet's bright start continued as they defeated Reading FC Women 5-1 to move into second place. Claire Thomas netted twice for the Bees along with Holly Sandow, Cheryl Williams and Katie O'Leary.

Brighton & Hove Albion are the other team in the division to sport a 100% record after they won 1-0 at Keynsham Town. Amy Found scored the only goal of the game in the first half of a fiercely contested game and Seagulls goalkeeper Lucy Mangan was in excellent form.

West Ham Utd drew for the third game in a row when sharing four goals with Cardiff City at Leckwith. Kayleigh Xidhas put the Hammers in front early on with Lisa Bird equalising, Gemma Shepherd then restored West Ham's lead from a free kick before Cardiff hit back to earn themselves a point via a late equaliser from Marie Barrow.

Kirsty McGee gave Pompey a ninth minute lead when she finished off a Justine Lorton cross but Charlton were back level on the half hour through a 25-yard strike from Kristina Manktelow. The game looked to be heading for a draw until injury time when Kirsty Palfreyman tucked home a cross from Leeta Rutherford.

WFC Fulham claimed their first win of the season, 1-0 away to Crystal Palace who are still searching their first points.
