France and Norway both booked their places in the quarter finals of the Euro 2009 Finals after the sides battled out a 1-1 draw in Helsinki. Norway got off to a flying start by taking the lead in the fourth minute when Lene Storlokken steered home a cross from Isabell Herlovsen. France responded well to the early setback and, shortly after Sandrine Soubeyrand had hit the bar, Camille Abily levelled the scores after being set up by Louisa Necib. A frantic first half gave way to a more cautious game after the interval and chances were scarce at either end. The match petered out into a draw with both sides happy to progress to the last eight. France will meet Holland in the quarter finals whilst Norway, who are guaranteed a spot as one of the two best third placed teams, will have to wait until after the final Group C matches to learn their opponents. Germany meanwhile completed their group fixtures with a third successive victory, 1-0 againct Iceland in Tampere. The Germans rested several players ahead of their forthcoming quarter final but they came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half when Martina Muller crashed a shot against the bar. Five minutes into the second half, Inka Grings, on as a half time substitute hit the post with a shot and, after Fatmire Bajramaj returned the ball into the area, Grings was on hand to guide the ball into the back of the net for the only goal of the game.
