Saints shine at Swindon
 Women's Football News 23 Jun 2009

Saints shine at Swindon - 23 Jun 2009 - Women's Football NewsSouthampton Saints took the honours at the Swindon Spitfires six-a-side tournament by carrying off the trophy.

With 36 teams including South West Combination outfits Team Bath and Swindon Town as well as Premier League Keynsham Town all taking part, it made winning the tournament very sweet for Adam Lee's side.

Southampton struggled through the qualifying rounds with one win and four draws but still only conceded two goals. In the play-offs, Saints saw off Larkhall Athletic 1-0 and progressed to the quarter finals where they beat Swindon Supermarine 1-0. The semi final went to penalties against Eltham Town with Saints coming out on top, goalkeeper Hannah Haughton making two penalty saves.

Saints came up against Keynsham Town in the Final but gave no respect to higher league opposition and walked away 4-0 winners, Hannah Billingham scoring the opening goal before Louisa Castle bagged a hat-trick.
