Due to the number of young women wanting to play football for Whitley Bay, the Club is forming a new team. Whitley held their trials over the weekend and almost 50 players applied to join their two adult teams. The new team will be a Development/Under 21 side and consist mainly of those players leaving Under-16 teams and entering women's football for the first time. The majority of last season's Whitley Bay Under-16 side fall into this category and a Development side would allow them to gain experience in adult football to equip them eventually to come through the ranks into Whitley's Reserves and First teams. Manager Colin Phillips said: "A number of young players are good prospects and want to continue playing, but can't get an opportunity for a club in the area. A number of our Under-16 team fall into this category and we don't want to lose them, so we have decided to form a Development side for this specific purpose and hopefully they will progress through our ranks but, more importantly, won't be lost to the game." There are still a number of places available in this and Whitley's reserves squad so any interested young players should contact Colin Phillips on (07974) 264216.
