Sandiacre Town completed a memorable season for their club by lifting the East Midlands League Cup after beating Clifton 4-3 after extra time in a thrilling Final. Sandiacre took the lead in fifth minute when Lynne Thompson scored from the penalty spot following a handball offence, with Clifton levelling just after the half hour mark. The second half was evenly contested with chances at both ends, Clifton having a goal disallowed for offside. Neither side could make a breakthrough and the game went into extra time. Nat Loughenbury put Sandiacre back in front within two minutes of the restart, with Ali Soria and Loughenbury adding further goals before the end of the first period. After the break, Clifton staged a fightback which saw them reduce the arrears to a single goal but Sandiacre held out for victory. Sandiacre therefore add the League Cup to their Division One North title triumph a few weeks ago. Special mention must go to hot shot striker Ali Soria, who scored an astonishing 91 goals in all competitions during the season. Premier Division runners-up Welbeck Welfare meanwhile did finish the campaign with some silverware, thanks to a 3-2 victory over Corby S & L in the League Plate Final.
