City girls are British Champions!
 Women's Football News 30 May 2009

City girls are British Champions! - 30 May 2009 - Women's Football NewsManchester City Under-14 have been crowned as Champions of Great Britain after winning the UK Finals of the Tesco Cup on Sunday.

City represented England in the Finals having previously won several tournament stages earlier in the year at County, Regional and National level and it was now time for the Home Internationals.

On a sunny day at Bolton's Reebok Stadium, City saw off stiff competition from Sion Swifts, representing Ireland, winning 2-0 in the semi final to set up what would be a tough Final against Celtic's Academy Team.

Celtic, having beaten Welsh representatives Llangyfelach Girls 4-0 in the semi finals, gave City a tough game but never really tested the opposing goalkeeper. Despite opportunities to force the winning goal, the game finished goalless after extra time, taking the teams into a nail biting penalty shootout where City triumphed 4-2 to clinch the trophy.

Sir Trevor Brooking, former Republic of Ireland player Andy Townsend and England goalkeeper Rachel Brown attended the event and named Chloe Ferguson as defender of the tournament.

The members of victorious Manchester City squad were:
Alex Brooks, Chloe Ferguson, Holly Marshall, Racheal Jones, Holly Brady, Georgia Brougham, Olivia Chaloner, Molly Coombe, Kyesha Brown, Sophie Atkinson, Racheal Moss, Jordan Bailey, Demi Dickson, Caitlin Hayes, Jess Bradshawe, Olivia Bradshawe.

"Many thanks to the parents and fans who supported us! Well done girls from your very proud coaches Darren and Tony."
