Everton manager Mo Marley praised her team's efforts after their heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to the Arsenal, which clinched the Championship for the Gunners.
"I don't think there's much more we could have done today," said Mo. "There was a lot of nerves, knowing what was at stake. Ironically we've lost the Premier League on goal difference, when arguably we've got the better defence and over the two games we've come out on top overall.
"Obviously I am proud of the players - they have said they couldn't have done any more and that's what you are asking for in the course of a season. We have to come back bigger and stronger for next season now.
"I thought we gave it our best shot and it wasn't for lack of effort. They (Arsenal) got that little bit of luck when we thought clearly that it was their player who headed the ball for the corner in the first place."
Lindsay Johnson had given a superb display in the centre of defence and was understandably upset at the outcome. "We had a few people on their last legs at the end," she said. "It was really disappointing - we knew we had it in our hands today and it was a mistake which has led to the defeat really.
"We had our chances but lacked that quality in the final third and that is hard to take. In the last eight or nine games, that quality has been there, but it wasn't today."
