Essex County Football Association development officers will be hoping FIFA referee Janie Frampton's presence at a special event this week will encourage more ladies into becoming qualified match officials as she puts in an appearance at Chelmsford City Football Club between 7.30pm and 10pm on the evening of Thursday 26th February. Tips on gaining mentoring support and climbing the referee ladder will be provided at the event, which will also provide the opportunity to rub shoulders with like-minded female football experts and share ideas and concerns as to the future of the game for the fairer sex. Essex County FA Girls' & Women's Development Officers Emma Burden and Sharon Brownlie will also be in attendance to offer useful hints and advice. Janie is an experienced referee who has covered games for men's contributory leagues and the FA Tesco Women's Premier League as well as acting as an assistant referee on women's internationals. She started off in the game by answering a call from her son to cover one of his games after the referee didn't show up and she is currently also involved by assisting the FA in changing the tendency for some sections of the football public to prejudicially view female officials. Looking forward to the evening, Sharon explained: "We are delighted to have managed to get Janie to come along as she is highly regarded within the Football Association. She is also a FIFA Referee Assessor, so basically she's a pretty big name! We're hoping local women will be inspired by a female referee who has progressed through the system and we want them to learn more about becoming a match official, maybe even signing them up for the next female course." Attendance on the night is possible providing telephoned notice is provided in advance. Anyone interested in coming along, or individuals who would like to learn more about coaching courses or other local football opportunities, can contact Emma on (01245) 393076 or e-mail emma.burden@essexfa.com. Further details can also be found on www.essexfa.com.
